summer is here and so it all begins....

I love summer break- I know, I know.... you non-teachers out there are rolling your eyes and snarling your lip at the mere thought of WHO IN THE HARKINDARKIN really should get a summer break- well- teachers that is who! (and by the way- that is just how the cookie crumbles...!)

Why do I love summer break:
1. I get to be a MOMMY. I get to just love on my two children that kind of get thrown on this crazy teacher train ride that their parents take every year (yes, my husband is also a teacher). They live a teacher's kid life and sometimes that sucks for them. They have to share us with forty-something other children! During the summer..... I am stuck to them like glue.
2. I recharge myself. Teaching is a draining business- it's not like I just clean my desk and leave work for the evening. Nine times out of ten, my work follows me home and it doesn't stop until I fall fast asleep. I love putting those thoughts to the back burner for a couple of weeks.
3. SLEEPING IN.... I need to say no more.
4. Vacations- Yes, teachers take the vacations that usually cost the most because well, that is when we really have TIME to take a vacation. Our family doesn't go on crazy trips, but we take one nice trip to a resort not far from us. It is quiet, sweet, and we know NO ONE... perfect.
5. Reading... LOVE TO DO IT and at our house- books are flying like the 4th of July!
6. Focus on me- yep, the down fall of many teachers is that well, we let ourselves go to shit during the year. Sorry, but yep, we are the type of people that care more about our families, our classroom, our students, and others around us than welllllll.... us. Let me give you an example... haven't cut my hair in TWO YEARS. Yes, you heard me. TWO- call lazy, call it stupid, call it that I have no time. Summer will allow for this process as I have time to relax and take it in.
7. SUN and the POOL- If you know me- I am a sun and pool freak. Work for the pool and have one in my backyard. As it goes for the sun, it just follows me around for the summer.... it's free, so I take advantage of all it has to offer.
8. I get to see my husband pretty relaxed- My husband teaches and puts every ounce into his life's work. During the summer, he focuses on his RC racing, his home, and his family. I love him for this and love to see him doing something that gives back to him.
9. Did I mention a pool... lord jebus... I love the pool.
10. I get to plan some really rock hard cool stuff to do during the next school year. This is where the magic begins my friends! I sit at my favorite spot (you guessed it right, the pool) and think of all the sweet junk that will flow from my community during the course of the year......

Now, I think I will ..... hmmm..... I know!I know! I KNOW...... GO TO THE POOL!!

Except for the teacher-husband parts, could I just cut and paste this to my blog? ;)

Those are all the reasons I love summer too. I especially love the "be a MOMMY" part. I was a stay at home mom for many years and still miss it. Summers off allow me to be a stay at home mom for two and a half months. Love it!

Have a wonderful summer!

I could just repost this because it captures my thoughts exactly! Except for the husband part because mine took off with someone else a couple years ago!
My kids are the most important part of my life, they get put on the back burner sometimes b/c I have to work. I have "friends" that get offended and/or angry b/c I don't want to hang out in the summer. They say, "Well you have free time now and you don't want to hang out." Yep, I want to hang out with my own 3 children. Sorry. And I get my hair cut in the summer, at Christmas and during spring break! :)
Love your blog.

People don't realize how hard teachers work during the school year. We pretty much work 7 days a week if we plan lessons on the weekends. We deserve that break!
